Employers at the TRU Indigenous Career Fair shared some valuable tips for students who are seeking employment. Check out the five tips below before you send your next job application.
Self-identify
Self-identify as Indigenous in your cover letter and/or application to be considered for positions seeking Indigenous applicants.
Cover letter
Use a cover letter to provide additional information to support your application. Expand on the skills, qualifications, and credentials already outlined in your resume.
Include positive references
List positive references, recommendations and testimonials from colleagues and managers in your cover letter.
Values alignment
Do your research on the organization. Describe how your personal values align with the organizational values.
Prepare thoughtful questions
During an interview, you will often have an opportunity for questions. Be prepared with thoughtful, well-crafted questions that outline your knowledge of the organization.
