Weddings FAQ
When can we access the facility for decorating and/or rehearsal?
Your wedding coordinator will confirm this approximately seven (7) calendar days prior to your booking, as it depends on other functions that may have booked in the banquet room prior to your event. If the banquet room has not been rented to another group, then you will be able to set-up/decorate the day prior to your wedding. If the room is rented the day/evening before, you will have access to the room the morning of your event by 9 a.m.
When do we take our décor down?
Décor take-down must take place the night of your event, unless otherwise arranged with your wedding coordinator. The TRU Conference Centre is not responsible for anything left in the room and additional cleaning fees may apply if items are left behind.
Are we allowed to bring in candles?
Contained flame candles are allowed (tea light & votive) on guest tables and outside. No open flame candles or candelabras will be permitted. No more than five (5) candles per table.
Who will provide flowers and wedding décor?
The TRU Conference Centre does not provide flowers or any wedding décor. Your wedding coordinator would be happy to recommend local vendors.
Can we bring in our own cake?
Yes, the TRU Conference Centre does not make wedding cakes so you are welcome to bring in your own. We also allow candy stations.
Can our cake be stored at the venue overnight?
No. Unfortunately, we do not have the refrigerator space for storing wedding cakes. Due to the capacity of our refrigerator, we do not allow cakes to be stored as there is a potential risk that the cake will be damaged.
Can I have my wedding ceremony at TRU as well?
Yes, the TRU campus has the outdoor Horticulture Gardens, which makes for a beautiful location for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The Horticulture Gardens can be added to any reception package. For pricing, please see the wedding brochure for the year you are getting married or speak with the TRU Conference Centre Wedding Coordinator. The Horticulture Gardens add-on includes the setup of up to 130 white folding chairs, a signing table with white linen and a DJ table. The Horticulture Gardens are confirmed for a maximum of three hours for your ceremony and photos.
We offer 2 ceremony times per day. 11 am - 2 pm and 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm. Weddings holding receptions at the TRU Conference Centre will be given priority for the 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm time slot.
Can we bring in our liquor?
Under the terms of the BC Liquor License Act, the TRU Conference Centre is prohibited from allowing any individual or group to provide outside alcohol at catered events. If you don’t find your favourite wine on our wine list, we are happy to order it for you through the BC Liquor Store.
How long can guests stay at the venue?
Last call is 12:45 a.m., and the venue will close at 2 a.m.
Where can our guests park?
There are four parking lots near the Campus Activity Centre – J, K, N and H. Parking is free on weekends and evenings after 5 p.m. All reserved spaces are in effect seven (7) days a week, 24 hours a day.
