Industry Certifications

Adventure Guide Certificate students

TRU students in the Adventure Guide Certificate may distinguish themselves by achieving a number of industry certifications from provincial and national adventure associations. This benefits TRU adventure students who plan to work and establish careers in the adventure industry.

The following is a sample of certifications available to Adventure Guide Certificate students. The certification obtained will depend on the student's elective course selection and the ability to meet the standard of the individual certifying organization. Note that there are opportunities for further transfer credits with other industry certifications and will be considered on a case by case basis.

With completion of the Adventure Studies Certificate or Diploma programs and in conjunction with the Interpretive Guides Association two-day Apprentice Course (which is taken through the IGA) and IGA active membership, a Professional Hiking Guide equivalency can be issued to those with hiking employment with National Parks.


Adventure Guide Diploma students

Adventure Guide Diploma students may distinguish themselves by achieving any of more than 35 industry certifications from provincial and national adventure associations and they may ladder into the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, depending on course selection.

Through experience and skill progression on Adventure Studies field courses and during personal time, Adventure Guide Diploma students have access to the following industry certifcations during their second year of study.
