What is the difference between an apprenticeship and foundation (trade entry) training?
Foundation
Foundation programs (formerly known as Trade Entry or pre-apprenticeship) provide entry-level knowledge and skills needed for entry into a trade, for students who are not currently working as an apprentice in the industry. You will gain some experience and familiarity with the trade to make it easier to find an employer who will sponsor your apprenticeship. Foundation programs provide an entry point where you can earn credit for one or two levels of technical training and work-based hours towards your apprenticeship without the need for an employer.
Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship programs are for trades workers who are working in the trade and actively registered with SkilledTradesBC as an apprentice with an apprenticeship number.
The apprenticeship program involves a combination of work-based training and technical training leading to a provincial and/or national industry training credential. Apprenticeship programs vary in length, though most take about four years to complete. Upon completion of the required training and work-based hour requirements, students will have the opportunity to write the interprovincial Red Seal exam, which is the certification/endorsement for most trades.

Once you have your SkilledTradesBC Individual ID number, to sign up for a class, place your name on the Apprentice Waitlist Form.

How do I become indentured as an apprenticeship?
You or your employer can print the Apprentice and Sponsor Registration Form from the Industry Training Authority website. Completed agreements are sent to SkilledTradesBC Customer Service. You will receive confirmation of your registration and a tradeworker identification number through the mail.
Do I receive EI benefits while I am taking the technical training portion of my apprenticeship?

When do my marks arrive after I have taken my technical training?
Your marks/transcripts will be sent to you by SkilledTradesBC.
How many hours do I need to work before taking the next level of apprenticeship?
The required hours varies between trades, visit SkilledTradesBC and the information will be in the Trade Profile.
