Campus Master Plan
The role of the Campus Development Plan is is to provide the coordinating strategy and context for "learning and teaching" and represents a framework for the process of change so that the whole will always be more than the sum of its parts. The plan is both product and process thereby achieving continuity beyond a single building and encouraging orderly campus development within available resources and the unique regional environment.
2015
At the February 13, 2015 TRU Board of Governors' meeting the 2015 Campus Master Plan Summary and Implementation Report was approved. This document outlines the design guidelines for campus development.
2013
The 2013 Campus Development Plan was undertaken to reflect the campus expansion of the last decade and to set the state for future development tied to the new academic plan, research plan, enrolment growth and the Thompson Rivers University Community Trust (TRUCT) initiatives.
This plan was conceived in three phases, each driven by student enrolment thresholds. The plan also laid out a palette of building design characteristics which allowed for the development of unique architectural responses to each new building while maintaining a visual coherence among buildings.
The 2013 Campus Master Plan (8 MB) was adopted by the TRU Board of Governors on February 14, 2014.
2003
The second plan was completed in 2003. This was built on the 1991 plan and was developed for the university by Stantec Consulting. The 2003 plan set a spatial and design context which governed the rapid expansion, continued growth of the Kamloops campus, landscape design plan and identified lands for endowment purposes (The Reach).
2001
The McGill Corridor/Southgate Project began in Spring 2001 as a joint project between Thompson Rivers University (formerly the University College of the Cariboo) and the City of Kamloops. The project developed into a land use and design concept plan for McGill Road and the Southgate Industrial Park.
1991
A long term plan was prepared in January 1991 by Downs/Archambault and Partners as a strategic instrument, both to guide the physical expansion of the College Campus and to provide an effective transition for Cariboo College from community college to university college to an independent university.
