Experiential Learning
Experiential learning (EL) engages students in first-hand experiences, furthers learning, strengthens connections with community, and deepens their understanding of the discipline or profession. EL can further students learning of a concept (e.g., probability, solubility, soil erosion, empathy, negotiation, professional tone) as well as contextualize application, practice and feedback. For faculty, it can spark partnerships, deepen awareness of emergent trends, maintain subject matter currency, and lead to potential collaborations and future opportunities. It can be a brief experience or last a term. Fundamentally it involves a first-hand experience and reflection.

Showcasing the Riipen Experiential Learning platform
Seeking an external partner (business, community organization) for your students to engage with on a course or curriculum-based project? The Riipen platform provides matchmaking.
For 2020-2021, Thompson Rivers University has been fully funded through the
RBC Future Launch
to utilize
Riipen, an experiential learning platform and marketplace for project-based
learning.
This opportunity is available for all faculties, disciplines,
and all levels of students for both in-class experiences and virtual
internships across Canada and the US.
How it works for faculty and instructors
An instructor seeking external partners for course and curriculum-based
student projects or experiences posts an opportunity in the
TRU Portal
(https://app.riipen.com/tru/profile). To access the portal signing up if new
to Riipen or logging in if previously have used Riipen.
Examples
of courses from TRU are below:
•
Virtual Co-op Work Term in International Business - Jamie Noakes
•
Global Management Consultancy - Shuna Ho
•
International Social Work - Bala Nikku
Tip: The earlier you post, the more likely
instructors are to find great companies and organizations for your students to
work with.
While remote
Riipen offers virtual internships as well as opportunities to connect to external partners remotely.
