Sexualized Violence
All members of the university community have the right to work, teach and study in an environment that is free from any form of sexualized violence. Sexualized violence will not be tolerated at the university. Thompson Rivers University is committed to raising awareness and educating the campus community about sexualized violence, developing a consent culture, reducing the risk of incidents of sexualized violence, responding to the needs of victims/survivors for support and empowerment, and to responding to incidents of Sexualized Violence effectively and fairly.
Sexualized violence or sexual misconduct is an umbrella term that encompasses any sexual act or act targeting a person’s sexuality, gender identity or gender expression, whether the act is physical or psychological in nature, that is committed, threatened or attempted against a person without the person’s consent. It varies in severity and takes many forms, including but not limited to:
- sexual assault
- sexual exploitation of a minor
- sexual harassment
- stalking
- indecent exposure
- voyeurism
