Accepted Students

Congratulations on your acceptance into the respiratory therapy program. Here's what you need to know to get started.

Orientation

  • A mandatory respiratory therapy program orientation will be held in September (info to be emailed in August).
  • A Campus wide orientation is recommended for all students new to TRU.

Required documents

The Program Assistant will email you the following:

  • TRU RT Immunization forms
  • Criminal Record Check code
  • HSPnet consent
  • CPR-C with AED/BLS certificate will be submitted by you (see below)

You must submit all of these required documents by August 31st of year one. If you do not, you will not be able to take part in your clinical year.

CPR-C with AED/BLS certificate

After acceptance into the three year RT Program, you must provide a valid CPR-C with AED certificate. (Fast trackers should do BLS).  If you do not already have a valid certificate please sign up for a class near you. Proof of completion must be submitted by August 31st. *All students will be required to certify for BLS prior to entering your clinical year. The RT program will arrange these BLS certification sessions.

Student immunization record

After acceptance into the RT Program, you will be sent an Immunization Record form by the RESP office. The immunization form must be completed and submitted to resp@tru.ca by August 31st. All RT students visiting health care service delivery sites for clinical placements are considered health care providers and should be protected against vaccine preventable diseases. You must follow provincial and practice agency immunizations guidelines and policies. Such policies are based on the Communicable Diseases and Immunization Guidelines from the BC Centre for Disease control and the Canadian Public Health Agency. Questions regarding immunization? Contact resp@tru.ca.

Criminal Record Check

After acceptance into the RT Program, you are required to undergo a Criminal Record Check (CRC). The CRC respiratory therapy code will be sent to you by the program assistant, enabling you to submit your CRC online. Questions regarding the CRC? Contact resp@tru.ca.

Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet)

You are required to complete the consent form. HSPnet consent forms are mandatory and are for the use and disclosure of student information to agencies for arranging clinical placements. BC Academic Health Council HSP net.
