Catharine Bisbicis

Catharine Bisbicis (née McMillan) is a lawyer (Law Society of Ontario, 2019). Catharine practises tax and administrative law at the Department of Justice in the Legal Services Unit to the Canada Revenue Agency. She works with her team to provide legal opinions, give presentations, and participate in committees on a wide range of tax issues.

Catharine began her legal career as a student researcher at Bisbicis Law Corporation (2016, 2017, and 2018 summers). She subsequently earned judicial clerkships at the Supreme Court of British Columbia (articles, 2018-2019) and the Tax Court of Canada (2019-2020).

Catharine attended the University of Toronto (BA Hons., St. George, University College, 2011-2015) where she received scholarships. She obtained her JD at TRU Law (2015-2018), earning six course awards, serving as a research assistant to three professors, and acting as Managing Editor of the Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law. Catharine earned her LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School (2020-2021). She presented her thesis, “Conceptualizing Tax Treaty Disputes through Conflict of Laws” (Prof. J. Scott Wilkie supervising) at law conferences. Her LLM research was funded by federal, provincial, and university institutions.

As a proud TRU Law alumna, Catharine is honoured by the opportunity to return to TRU Law as a BC Court of Appeal Moot coach. TRU Law not only inspired Catharine’s passion for legal analysis and writing, but was also where she met her husband in September 2015, formed lifelong friendships, and learned from caring mentors.

Catharine lived, worked, and studied in Ontario, Dubai UAE, and Beijing PRC before settling in British Columbia. She lives in Vancouver and Whistler with her husband and son.
