Greg Pun, K.C.

Greg Pun is a co-coach for TRU Law’s Jessup International Law Moot team (2017–present). Prior to joining the Jessup team, he coached TRU Law’s BC Law Schools Moot team (2013–2017).

Greg obtained his LL.B. from UBC Law in 1989, and was a member of its Jessup Moot team in 1987–88. Following graduation, he was a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court Trial Division (1989–90). He has been a member of the Ontario Bar (1991–2021) and BC Bar (1991–2018), and was appointed Queen’s Counsel (BC) in 2015.

Greg was a summer student, articled student, and associate at Russell & DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) at various times in 1988, and 1991–1995. In 1995–1998, he taught in the Legal Assistant Training Program at Selkirk College and also did freelance legal research. In 1998–2007 and again in 2011–2012, he was with Alexander Holburn Beaudin & Lang LLP as its Director of Legal Research, Director of In-House Professional Development, and founder/head of its Appeals Practice Advisory Team. During 2008–2010 Greg was the Law Officer (now called “Legal Counsel”) to the BC Court of Appeal. Greg began a long-term medical leave in Sep 2012 and ultimately retired from practice.

Greg appeared as counsel in all BC courts (Provincial, Supreme, Appeal), Federal Court, and the Supreme Court of Canada, and filed numerous written submissions in the Supreme Court of Canada and Ontario Court of Appeal.

At various times before and after his retirement, Greg taught at UBC Law and TRU Law as an adjunct professor and guest lecturer (chiefly on legal research and writing). Greg coached, judged, and practised with numerous 1L and competitive moot court teams at both schools. He was a guest instructor and assessor for the BC Law Society’s Professional Legal Training Course for legal research and writing, advocacy, and interviewing/advising (2014–17).

Greg co-authored 4 legal texts: The Annotated Unemployment Insurance Act, 1993 (Carswell, 1992), The Annotated Law and Equity Act (Canada Law Book, 1998-2018), The Annotated Builders Lien Act (Continuing Legal Education Society of BC, 2003, 2007), and The Law of Nuisance in Canada (LexisNexisButterworths, 2010, 2013), and numerous journal articles and seminar papers (including The Advocate and The Lawyers Weekly). He has spoken at many continuing professional development seminars and was the Chair of the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch sections for Legal Research (2000–02, 2004–06) and Appellate Advocacy (founding chair, 2011–13).
