Margaret Hall

Dr. Margaret Isabel Hall is a Professor in the Simon Fraser University (SFU) School of Criminology and the Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia Chair in Applied Legal Studies. Dr. Hall is also the Director of the Masters of Arts in Applied Legal Studies Program at SFU.

Dr. Hall has an extensive background in the teaching and mentoring of law students. Prior to commencing her PhD in 2009, Dr. Hall taught as a lecturer and then Assistant Professor for the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia. Upon completing her PhD, Dr. Hall joined the Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University, most recently holding the rank of Associate Professor. Dr. Hall was a founding faculty member for TRU Law and played a key role in building the new faculty and designing and delivering several courses in the areas of Tort Law, Wills and Estates, Family Law, and Legal Philosophy.

Dr. Hall is an expert in Elder Law, Wills and Estates, and Tort Law (she is a co-author of Canadian Tort Law and the Law of Nuisance in Canada). Her research interests and publications also include legal responses to vulnerability, mental capacity, law and dementia, and medical assistance in dying.
