Dean's Cup Internal Moot
The TRU Law Oral Advocacy Club is a volunteer, student-run club that provides law students with the opportunity to present legal arguments before an appellate-style court. The Oral Advocacy Club organizes the Dean’s Cup Internal Moot, which takes place in January/February at TRU Law. Students can sign up in pairs, and compete in oral argument.
Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada
The Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada (HACC) is a moot where teams compete in a simulated National Hockey League (NHL) salary arbitration case. Teams represent both players and teams throughout the competition. The HACC takes place in November at the University of Toronto. The coaches are Tiana Reid from KSW LLP, Dylan Taylor from Dawson Mullin Law, and Michael Gieb from Parlee McLaws LLP. Teams are two members.
The TRU Law HACC team of Dylan Taylor and Tiana Reid finished second in 2019.
National Sports Law Negotiation Competition
The National Sports Law Negotiation Competition is a negotiation competition that addresses cutting-edge issues in sports law and policy. These issues have included topics such as trading of players, salary negotiations, endorsement contracts, and intellectual property rights. The competition takes place in October at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego California. The coaches are Karen Perry from PwC Law LLP, and Jesse Olynyk from the Parents Legal Centre.
